Leeds Street Lighting Department has recently placed in service a Karrier tower wagon,. which is illustrated on this page, for the maintenance of overhead lighting equipment. The chassis has a 9-ft. 3-in, wheelbase and a turning circle of 33 ft. It incorporates a six-cylindered engine, developing over 60 b.h.p., four-wheel brakes of the duo-servo pattern and progressive springs. The type of cab fitted enables four men, in addition to the driver, to be carried. • • Screw jacks carried on the chassis frame, give stability to the vehicle when the tower superstructure is fully extended. The tower, which was built by Rawlinsons, Ltd., of Blackburn, is in three sections and can be raised either by power or by hand ; when closed it is 13 ft. high and when extended 25 ft. high. The top platform measures 9 ft. 2 ins. by 3 ft. 10 ins.
