THE Advertising Standards Authority has slapped the Scottish Development Agency's wrists for claiming in a newspaper promotion that there were "two fast motorway routes" from Edinburgh and Glasgow to London. The SDA admitted that technically the ASA was correct but thought it was splitting hairs in differentiating between officially designated motorways and general-purpose fast roads.
An industrialist who lodged the complaint does not agree. Having moved his factory from England to Southern Scotland he has found the road links so bad that he is going back to England.
With motorways looking like a cross between gruyere and gorgonzola cheese, anyone who claims that there are fast motorway routes to anywhere risks being accused of prevarication.
