Which of the following most accurately describes the problem?

• The police are warning hauliers to beware of a gang of "expert" truck thieves operating in the Lancaster area, following the latest in a spate of lorry thefts, At least five trucks have been stolen in the past month. The latest victim, T Brady & Son of Heysham, had a Scania tractor unit and a trailer full of mahogany taken from an industrial estate in Carnforth shortly after midnight last Thursday (15 October), although the estate, on Kellet Road, is regularly patrolled by police. Brady depot manager Mick Wilson says the company had already fitted a hidden immobiliser device, which cut-off the ignition, and had drained the brake air tanks as a precaution against theft.

"There were no signs of forced entry. Obviously the thieves knew about trucks and electrics. We thought we had taken sufficient precautions after the earlier thefts," he says.

Other lorries and trailers stolen during the past four weeks include a tractor unit owned by Lancaster Training Services; a Towliner belonging to Sinilie, Glasgow; and a tractor unit and trailer owned by W&J Pye. An ER Haulage trailer was recovered by police in Liverpool, following a tip-off, while a Sc.ania tractor and trailer belonging to J Staden was stolen, recovered, equipped with anti-theft devices — and stolen again.

The Brady vehicle is a Scania R112 6x2 tractor unit with a 12m Wilson flat trailer, which was carrying 24 tonnes of Brazilian mahogany worth about 215,000. The unit — registration number A109 PEG — is valued at about 225,000.
