• Plans have been released for the ' acquisition of 5000 vehicles by the Army to form a new fleet of heavy logistics lorries. The fleet is to comprise general cargo carriers, tippers and fuel tankers. The vehicles will be rigids with payload capacities of 8 and 16 tons and artics with 20 tons capacity. In addition, there will be a small requirement for tank transporters.
For the 16-ton class lowand medium-mobility vehicles will be required while the 8-ton class will be made up of medium-mobility vehicles. Medium-mobility can usually be achieved only by the use of all-wheel-drive lorries. The Army hopes that so far as possible vehicles within one "family" group can be obtained so that there will be the maximum number of components common to the different vehicle classes.
