Latest and lightest in the range of compact, easily transported CO, welding machines marketed by Welding Products International is the Kempomat 160, a semi-automatic MIG unit primarily intended for use in car body repair shops.
The machine is also suitable for a variety,of other sheet metal and similarly light fabrication work. It incorporates a fiveposition combined current/voltage selector and an electronic spot-welding timer. The first control provides a single setting for semi-automatic welding with 0.6mm wire, a choice of three others when working with 0.8mm wire and a fifth for use in conjunction with the timer.
Each setting automatically provides the optimum combination of voltage and wire-feed speed for the type of work to be undertaken, enabling the task to be carried out successfully, even by relatively unskilled operators. The timer, infinitely variable from 0.5 to 2.5 seconds, enables one-sided spot welds to be made with ease in a variety of materials and thicknesses.
The Kempomat 160 is supplied complete with rubbertyred undercarriage (which includes accommodation for the gas cylinder) and a lightweight welding torch. The wire reel assembly is designed to accept standard 25 or 28Ib coils.
