IUR (JON) CRABTREE, West Midland Licensing Authority and ic Commissioners' chairman since 1966, moved this week to be id chairman of the Western Traffic Area.
succeeds Sir John Potter, retired last week after 10 ; as chairman. He was riously chairman of the shire area and became a 'r-General in the Army. Crabtree, who is to speak at CM's Fleet Management Conference on October 13, has held the West Midlands post since 1974 and has established a reputation for being particularly strict in his definition of operating centres. He worked as a solicitor from 1948 in Walsall and Nuneaton, and spent 20 years as a town clerk, first in Nuneaton, then Cheltenham.
In line with the Department of Transport's proposals for redefined traffic area boundaries, West Midlands and South Wales areas, while remaining separate, now share the same LA/chairman. Ronald Jackson, South Wales LA since 1961, is now also handling the West Midlands. He was previously a commissioner for road transport in Malaya.
