Poll: redundancies are widespread
EARLY RESULTS from the latest Freight Transport Association (FTA) poll suggest 48% of its members have made redundancies in the first quarter and further job losses are being forecast.
Of the 100 respondents who have so far replied to the PTA's ongoing Quarterly Transport Activity Survey, 48 confirmed that they had made redundancies between January and March.
Meanwhile, 30% say they are considering making redundancies in the second quarter, and almost 40% have cut back on the use of agency drivers.
With approximately 14,000 members, the trade association hopes for an increased response before the poll concludes at the end of April. However, the FTA's director of communications Jo Tanner tells CM, there has been a good geographical range of respondents.
