1VECO IS stepping up its profile in the Far East through a new middleweight truck partnership with Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicles (TDCV).
Under the deal, predicted last year by CM, Iveco Motors/Fiat Powertrain Technologies ( FPI) will provide engines for a middleweight rigid called the Novus. which will initially he sold in Korea hut could also be exported. The 5.9-litre six-pot 240hp common-rail engine already powers Iveco's Eurocargo.
The Novus features cab components from the previous Cargo range, albeit with unique local exterior styling.
TDCV and Iveco Motors/EPT expect the Novus to take 30% of the Korean middleweight truck market. It will be built at TDCV's Korean assembly plant in Gunsan, 250km south of Seoul.
TDCV managing director Ki-Hee Won says: We have our sights firmly set on winning market leadership in Korea and look
forward to working closely with Iveco Motor/FPT to achieve great success together.
This is Iveco's second joint venture with Tata Daewoo; they set up a heavy-duty truck partnership in India last year.
