THE average weekly output of commercial vehicles during May was 5,161 units, the month's total being 20,644. In the first five months of the year, 103,667 units were made, the figure for the corresponding period last year being 97,546.
Of May's output, 10,396 were for export and 10,248 for the home market. Goods vehicles. road haulage tractors and special types numbered 19,881. Of the total, 10,402 were under 15 cwt. carrying capacity, 7,875 from 15 cwt. to 6 tons and 1,604 over 6 tons.
During the month 681 passenger vehicles were produced, of which 509 were single-deck and 169 double-deck motorbuses and three trotleybuses. Eighty-two battery-electrics were produced. Of the five months' production, 99,361 were goods vehicles, road haulage tractors and special types. Of these, 54,813 were under 15 cwt. carrying capacity, 36,234 from 15 cwt. to 6 tons and 8,314 were over 6 tons. The 3,911 passenger vehicles produced comprised 3,126 single-deck and 768 doubledeck motorbuses and 17 trolleybuses. The total for battery-electrics was 395.
Excluding dumpers and industrial trucks, exports during May totalled 12.456 units, their value, including dumpers and industrial trucks. being £6,899,008.
During the first five months ot the year, 58.140 units (03,777,094) were exported, In addition, parts and accessories totalling £36,872,806 were shipped.
