NORTHAMPTONSHIRE police have launched Operation Tiger, an anti-truck crime initiative —but one local operator is asking where they were three months ago.
David Hall, sales director at Derek Jones Commercials. says they showed little interest in March when three high-value Scania flatbeds with cranes were stolen from one of its customers, Rob Masters.
"Luckily one of our night-shift foremen spotted the vehicles that night." Jones adds. "He called Masters who then called the police. But they did nothing until the next morning. Even when Masters located one of the vehicles through GPS the police appeared uninterested in checking out its location."
They are still missing and Masters' business "has suffered due to lack of vehicles. Due to their specialist nature replacement trucks will not arrive until September."
But Hall still welcomes Operation Tiger: "Hopefully it means that they are taking the issue of truck crime seriously. For one week at least we can assume that 'Operation Sleeping Pussycat' has been superseded."
