ROAD haulage rates for all classes of traffic collected and delivered within five miles of Bradford Town Hall, and for wool traffic beyond that radius, were approved for introduction immediately by a meeting of Bradford haulage contractors, held last week. The meeting, called by the resuscitated Bradford Horse and Motor Owners' Association, also elected officials and a committee for the conduct of the organization, including Mr. E. Webster, as president.
For traffic within the five-mile radius, the following hourly time rates on a load-capacity basis operate, with the addition of a 1-hour travelling time each way:--80-cwt., 4s. 6d.; 2 to 31 tons, 6s.; 91 to 6 tons, 8s.; 8 tons, 10s.; 12 tons, 15s. Alternative to the time rates, the following piece rates operate for wool traffic carried within a radius of two miles from Bradford Town Hall, the charges to include waiting time:B/A bales, 2s. per bale; squares, Is. 3d. per square; sheets, Is. per sheet; botany bales, 9d. per bale; bags of tops, Is. per bag. It is provided that the haulier shall have the option of charging time rates for deliveries, in his opinion, involving excessive waiting rime.
The wool rates for traffic beyond the five-mile radius are on a mileage basis. They are divided into two sections, one for imported wool in the original pack, and the second for other wools. In the former section, the rates scale starts at Bs. per ton for six miles, ascends in stages of Is, per ton-mile to 10s. for eight miles, rises to 10s. 4d. for nine miles and to I Is. for 10 miles, and then in stages of 6d. per ton-mile to 13s. 6d.
per ton for 15 miles. From 13s. 9d. for 16 miles, the scale then ascends in stages of 3d. per ton-mile to 16s: for 25 miles.
In the second section the scale begins at 10s. per ton for six miles, ascends in stages of 2s. 6d. 'per ton-mile to 15s. for eight miles, and then rises in stages of 9d. per ton-mile to 20s. 3d. per ton for 15 miles. Thereafter, it ascends in stages of 3d. per ton-mile to 22s. 9d. per ton for 25 miles. Over 25 miles, an additional 3d. per ton-mile is charged in both sections.
