• Hopes of early rises in fares levels were dashed last week by the Department of the Environment. Two meetings held by the DoE with the chairmen of the Traffic Commissioners and various operator associations to discuss the Government's consultative document "The Price and Pay Codes" gave no indication of any change in policy towards fare increases at present.
Though operators' representatives indicated the difficulties of some undertakings caused by the freeze the DoE was unable to give a firm date on which applications for fare increases would be considered. • The first vehicles of a largest-ever 68vehicle order are now being delivered to Teesside Corporation Transport. The vehicles are Daimler Fleetlines with 70-seat bodies. They cost £14,137 each.
