HTEARING of an application by Sunter Bros., Ltd., Northallerton, to add a 32-wheeled trailer to their. A licence was adjourned by the Northern Licensing Authority last week after the objectors had claimed that the printed notices had not described the vehicle accurately.
Mr. T. Sunter said th,..t it wa3 desired to replace an obsolete solid-tyred vehicle which was dangerous on bridges and damaged road surfaces. The new trailer would have eight axles and would probably be the only one of its kind in the country. The hydraulic suspension would enable the platform to be raised or lowered, and the rear wheels would be steered hydraulically.
He told Mr. J. L. R. Croft, for British Railways and Pickfords, who suggested that the trailer would carry loads much greater than 45 tons, that it would not have a greater capacity than the company's existing vehicles.
The hearing will be resumed OR December 5.
