recei fly. owherdriver Philip Baker was a specialist brick haulier operating in the South
East, His route normally took him from brickworks to building sites. so he was able to get around the lack of rest facilities by taking his breaks wherever he was collecting or delivering.
Philip Baker "I made sure I took my break on site or at the brickworks." he explains. "There was always a parking area where I could take a 45-minute rest and it was normally quieter than sitting in a lay-by.
"If you take your break at the side of a road. the traffic is flying by and by the end of your rest period you feel worse than you did at the start of it. But I know this is a serious problem in some parts of the country.
In Ashford, Kent. I hear there are foreign lorries parked up in all the back streets because there is nowhere else for them to go."
