"Dryers are treated with a lot more respect there," he says. "In France they have areas where you can just pull in and you're not fighting for space with cars. Ifs purely for trucks.
"Over here. on certain sections of motorway it's hard for drivers to judge how long it's going to take to get to the next stop so they can take their break," he points out.
Brooke laments the decline of traditional truckstops and believes planned rest areas could make things easier: "But I don't think dryers should have to pay. It's a legal obligation that they should have a break every four and a half hours, so why should they be out of pocket for that?"
