Times are tough in the trailer market at the moment, but Tidd Trailers sales director Roland Merrill believes he can detect some improvement. "Things have been very quiet for the post three or four months— nobody is spending money—but there are signs that they are about to pick up," he says.
The Streamliner trailer is continuing to win friends: Merrill estimates that Tidd has supplied well over 800 over the past three years. As well as Argos, customers include Wincanton and Parceline. One of the company's latest offerings is the Centurion all-bolted-construction curtain sider semi. Tidd is working on a lightweight version making extensive use of high-tensile steel. It will weigh 6.2 tonnes, compared with the standard model's 7.0 tonnes.
Merrill is also pleased with the way the MuhiPak trailer is being received. This double-decker is part of the Streamliner range, capable of carrying 82 roll cages, with an ambient lower deck and a temperature-controlled upper deck. "We've got eight in operation with Budgen," he reports.
