• A senior vehicle examiner in the Vehicle Inspectorate will not IX prosecuted following a police decision to take no further action against hint.
Ralph Wogan, who was the senior vehicle examiner responsible for truck and car maintenance standards in Devon, Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset, had been under investigation for allegedly disconnecting a number of car speedos before selling the cars.
Wogan, who is currently unwell, had also been investigated by police for alleged theft of a number of car MoT certificates from his employer.
Devon and Cornwall police say: "The traffic branch has car ried out a lengthy and comprehensive investigation. The decision to take no further action against Mr Wogan was reached following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service."
VI management had refused to give police a statement of complaint on the alleged theft of the MoT certificates.
"The VI had its own internal action to consider and its own employee to consider—an employee who isn't at all well. The question of a statement to police didn't arise," says a spokesman.
Wogan was suspended from his duties last year; he has been offered early retirement and is expected to leave the VI soon.
