• A haulier was fined 22 last week—for failing to maintain his windscreen wipers and washers.
The charges were brought against Danny Lee, of Low Hill, Wolverhampton, after his truck collided with a car in March.
The police found that the lorry's wipers and washers were not in working order. A more serious charge of using a defective vehicle which caused or was likely to cause danger was dropped.
Lee told the court that the weather had been dry and he was not aware that the wipers were not working.
He later solved the problem with a 25p fuse and by filling up the washer's fluid container.
After fining Lee 21 for each charge, Wolverhampton magistrates' chairman David Smith said: "It is unfortunate that the case was brought before the courts in the first place."
Lee said: "I know it was an offence but I'm hardly a serious criminal."
The cost for taking the case to court is reported to have been more than 2500.
