Don-Bur has developed a new double-deck refrigerated trailer which it says is the most heatefficient ever.
The first of these is already operating on supermarket chain J Sainsbury's bulkiest chilled food distribution work.
Measuring 13.6m long, 2.6m wide and 4.8m tall, the trailer can take 92 roll cages on lts two decks.
Don-Bur says its new, slim lifting mechanism for the second deck has eliminated heat transfer through the side walls and makes the unit as efficient as single-deck designs.
The cable mechanism is recessed 200mm into the 45mm side insulation panelling giving a top deck 2.3m wide and 9m long.
A Frigoblock HK34 reefer unit, mounted at floor level in the swan neck of the trailer, is used to lift the 10-tonne, 35 roll cage second deck on four columns. This means the tractor engine can be switched off during loading and unloading, cutting down on fuel costs and emissions.
Accessible through side panels, the reefer unit has a large capacity condenser needing an air gap of only 100mm between the top of the load and the roof, maximising load volume.
In rased position, the top floor gives second deck headroom of 1.8m and lower deck height just shy of 1.9m. Insulation is 45mm thick throughout except for the floor which features 75mm panelling.
Don-Bur says it has secured orders for the trailer from other chilled distribution fleets and is looking to secure more orders from Sainsbury's.
