Two days after Mr. Norman Dean, general manager of thp Yorkshire Traction Co. Ltd., had presented the retiring chairman of the Yorkshire Traffic Commissioners, Maj. F. S. Eastwood, with parting gifts at a Leeds function, roles were reversed and Maj. Eastwood made a presentation to Mr. Dean to mark his retirement at the end of the month on reaching the age of 65. The presentation was made on behalf of the Yorkshire Regional Fares Committee, whose chairmanship Mr. Dean has held for 10 years. Well known as a raconteur and a keen follower of rugby, Norman Dean has been honoured both inside and outside the transport industry, in which he has served all his life. He is a holder of the OBE, has been President of the Omnibus Society, was twice chairman of Sheffield section of the Institute of Transport, and has held chairmanships and presidencies of several other bodies. He first entered transport on the haulage side, then became manager of Bilton Motor Co:, Harrogate, from 1922-24 before moving to Hebble Motor Services as general manager. In 1939 he became Yorkshire Traction's g.m. and his 261 years there have " twinned " Maj. Eastwood's period as chairman of the Traffic Commissioners.

Loildon. Transport announces that Mr. Kenneth G. Pope has been appointed. Press officer to the Board as from January 3, 1966. Mr. Pope, who is 35, is Press officer to the British Omnibus Companies' Public Relations Committee. Before entering Press relations work Mr. Pope spent 12 years in newspaper journalism, including three years as chief reporter of the Kentish Express at Ashford, and nearly five years as a general news sub-editor with Press Association. After nearly 36 years with Midland Red, Mr. Jack L. Ransome, deputy chief engineer, is to retire at the end of the year. Mr. Ransome joined the company at the Kidderminster garage in July, 1930. He became assistant foreman, foreman and then inspector of maintenance at outside garages before being appointed experimental engineer in 1940. He became development engineer at the company's central works at Edgbaston in 1941 and has held his present position since April, 1958. He was engaged on the production of the company's S-type, underfloor-engined, prototype single-deck bus during the war years. Mr. Ransome will be succeeded by Mr. Kenneth R. Worrall, who for the past 3+ years has been divisional engineer at Birmingham. Mr. Worrall started with the company as a fitter's boy at the Bearwood workshops in September, 1945, becoming successively fitters' improver, skilled fitter and in 1954 a technical assistant. Mr. Worrall Mr. A. S. Carmany has been appointed treasurer-director of Firestone Tyre and Rubber Co. Ltd., Brentford, replacing Mr. H. J. Brandenburg, who has accepted a post in the Akron headquarters of Firestone. Previously Mr. Carmany was treasurer of Firestone in Valencia, Venezuela.

Mr. K. C. Turner, president of TRTA and WU, recently led a mission to Rome where he discussed problems of TIR carnets in regard to Italy with the Finance Minister and the Director General of Customs. Mr. W. E. Jones has retired from his position as a part-time director of the Transport Holding Company. Mr. Jones is heavily engaged on work for the Monopolies Commission.

Mr. L. C. Greening has been appointed marketing manager of Electric Power Storage Ltd. for Exide and Kathanode automotive and traction batteries within. the UK. Mr. A. J. Brogan becomes Exide automotive sales manager (home) and Mr. C. W. Wood, EPS (Exide and Kathanode) traction sales manager (home).

Mr. John E. D. Neall has been appointed manager of advertising and public relations by the International Harvester Company of Great Britain Ltd. For the past two years Mr. Neall has carried out special assignments for the board of directors and was formerly education and training manager and also parts merchandising manager. He joined the company in 1953.
