The two-vehicle licence held by Simro Kaur, trading as Shergill Haulage, of Smethwick, was revoked when she failed to appear at a Birmingham disciplinary inquiry. West Midland Traffic Commissioner David Dixon disqualified Kaur from holding or obtaining an Operator's Licence for two years. . The TC said three immediate prohibitions had been imposed on Kaur's
vehicles since the licence was granted in September 1997. The latest, which was for a significant maintenance failure, had been imposed on a vehicle stopped in Dorset in November 1998. The nominated transport manager, Jatwinder Singh Bhogal, had informed the Traffic Area about a year ago that he no longer wished to be transport manager. Kaur had been asked for details of her new transport manager but had not replied.
Traffic examiner Malcolm Seward said that following the Dorset incident he tried to contact Kaur but she failed to respond. He spoke to Bhogal, who said he was Kaur's agent and that he was the owner and user of the vehicle. Bhogal also failed to keep appointments for an interview.
Indicating that he had no option but to revoke the licence, the TO said that Kaur no longer met the professional competence requirement.
