I agree with your comments regarding the requirement for drivers to check their vehicle roofs for signs of entry.
If proper inspection facilities are not available then drivers will not be able to make comprehensive checks of their vehicle.
Surely drivers and operators would be within their rights to insist that British Customs and Immigration make their own checks, thus placing the responsibility for any illegals solely on them. If a driver was not happy that he had been able to satisfactorily check his vehicle at port of exit from mainland Europe. he could stop between the linkspan and Immigration and await control. The delays at ports would be horrendous, but surely this would be better than risking fines that would put many operators out of business. David lynno, David Lynne Transport, Surrey.
