COMPENSATION of £3369 has been awarded to an Arbroath man by an industrial tribunal in Dundee. The tribunal upheld the claim of Gordon McGregor that he had been unfairly dismissed as transport supervisor by William Wilson & Co. (Aberdeen) Ltd, of Great Western Road, Aberdeen.
The tribunal had been told by James Morrison, manager of the Arbroath branch of the company on the Elliot industrial estate, that he had become suspicious of Mr McGregor and a driver from another company who seemed to spend excessive amounts of time in buildings where they had no right to be.
The two were seen on one oc casion to take a box of tiles from one part of the warehouse, but although Mr McGregor claimed they were for his own use, they were never charged to his account. The tribunal unanimously agreed there had been appropriation of company property and failure to follow company procedure. But the company had not carried out sufficient investigations to have a reasonable case for dismissing Mr McGregor.
