THE Esso Petroleum Co., Ltd., have
introduced a new type of randier designed so that an aircraft can be serviced with both lubricating oil and water methanol by one vehicle. The
refueller carries 200 gallons of lubricating oil and 100 gallons of water methanol, and to enable it to go under the wings of the majority of aircraft, its overall height has been restricted to 6 ft. A Karrier Bantam chassis is employed.
The refueller has been designed for one-man operation and, as a safety precaution, a locking mechanism has been fitted to the hose-reel covers, so that only one delivery hose can be drawn out at any one time. The top of the vehiele, with the exception of the driver's cockpit, has been covered by a grid deck, easily removed for cleaning purposes, so that a ladder can be erected on the top of the unit and rested against an aircraft wing.
The controls of both the lubricatingoil and water methanol pumps. have been located in the driver's cockpit, and can also be operated from the deck of the vehicle.
The refueller can deliver lubricating oil at the rate of 12 g.p.m. and water methanol at 9 g.p.m. through 30-ft. delivery hoses mounted on springrewind reels. Meters of the Avery Hardoll type with inclined facei are iitted for easy reading from aircraft wings.
Roller shutters have been fitted on both the near and off-side of the vehicle to give easy access to hose reels, pumps and meters. The roof can be lifted clear to give access to all units.
The bodywork was made by the Steel Barrel Co., Ltd., Uxbridge.
