THE underlying feature of the works
trucks built by Matting, Ltd., Park Lane, Fallings Park, Wolverhampton, is their ability to manceuvre in extremely restricted areas. A new model, a rideon stillage transporter, maintains this characteristic, the battery electric version being only 39+ in. long overall, and the petrol version 32 in.
Four models are being produced covering payload capacities from 1,000 lb. to 4,000 lb. Control and steering are by means of a " dead-man " tiller, which forms an integral part of the power unit and drive wheel.
The battery model is powered by a 24v. constant-speed motor, the capacity of the battery supplied as standard being sufficient to cover an average full day's work.
In the case of petrol-engined models, the power unit is a Villiers four-stroke engine, an average full day's work calling for gallon of fuel. The use of the Matting large-capacity air cleaner allows them to be operated without harm in a dust-laden atmosphere. The engine has a slow-running device.
With a 36-in. by 18-in. stillage platform, the unladen weight of the battery models is 1,455 lb. and of the petrol models 952 lb.
