• The International Road Transport Union has slammed the Austrian government for imposing an HGV ban two weeks earlier than usual, leaving drivers stranded in lorry parks.
The holiday season weekend driving ban usually starts on 1 July, but this year Caspar Einem, the Austrian transport minister, brought it forward citing "safety reasons".
