II Subcontractors owed thousands by failed haulier Matthews European have revealed they were victims of another non-paying haulage company, based in the same area, just months beforehand.
David Wright, who is owed 27,500 by Matthews for work dating back to February this year, says the loss came on top £14,000 owed by Bridlington, East Yorks-based MJ Wilson.
Wright had worked for MJ Wilson, whose directors are Martin J Wilson and Christine J Matson, between October and December of last year on international fndge work.
Wright says he was paid for some of the work but the outstanding debt has left him struggling to pay his mortgage.
Mike Pearson from M&M Freight Services, which also suffered in the Matthews failure, says he is owed around £8,700 by MJ Wilson. "We worked for him last year using his fuel cards and he seemed to be a reasonable set-up," says Pearson. "I had nine trucks before Christmas but now I'm going through the insolvency mill."
It is not clear if MJ Wilson is still trading. It is listed at Companies House as being active, but its depot is deserted and it has had a 213,000 County Court Judgment awarded against it in the last 12 months.
'This company has nothing to do with MJ Wilson (Haulage) based in Gillingham, Kent.
