THE first Freighter 'refrigerated van with Perkins-engined Transieold equipmen J. has just been put into service in Australia. The van is owned by C. N. Blornfiet Pty., Ltd., Red-Hill, Victoria, and has been operating on 1,300-mile journeys t Brisbane, carrying payloads of 15 tons and completing the journey in 36 hours. The Transicold refrigeration plant is Dowered by a Perkins Four 99 engine, rate' for this application to develop 23.5. b.h.n. at -2,000 r.p.m. The engine is rubber mounted on brackets beneath the van body, and when the cargo temperature.reache a preselected limit the-engine idles at 1,100 r.p.m., change in temperature requiremen causing the engine speed to increase to about 1,900 r.p.m.
