Paper and Discussion at Manchester.
Mr. Leo Swain (George Spencer Moulton and Co., Ltd.), chairman of the Manchester, Liverpool and -Counties C.M.U.A., recently presided at the first "Debate Meeting" of members of the Association, at the Midland Hotel, Manchester. He was immediately supported by the ex-chairman, Mr. R. C. Reynolds (Bleachers Association, Ltd.), Mr. John Faulkner (C. T. Faulkner and Co., Ltd.), and Mr. Ellis Green (secretary). There was a considerable attendance.
The chairman explained that it was the committee's wish that the meeting should be as sociable and informal as possible, as it was desired that members should have an opportunity occasionally of meeting to hear something in the way of a paper and discussion, and at the same time to get better known to each other, thereby gaining confidence in bringing forward anything they might consider to be of general interest and benefit. That night's meeting was quite an experiment, the object being to have a paper read which might be profitable to one and all, and perhaps even educate some of the officers and members on certain points. If the innovation were successful, the committee would ayrange a programme of papers for discussion, say, once. a month, and Mr. Reynolds had consented to be the first gentleman to be "victimized."
