• Amendment of the Vehicles (Excise) Act 1962 to eliminate the weight of all fixed plant and equipment when calculating the unladen weight of a goods vehicle for excise duty purposes is being called for by the Traders Road Transport Association.
At present, the weight of items such as refrigeration plant, tail-board lifts, lorrymounted cranes and similar aids to efficiency has to be included in the duty computation.
The Association iS challenging the present ruling on the grounds of productivity and efficiency; quality of perishable goods; and safety.
