ROAD hauliers are as concerned about the preservation of tjie beauty and heritage of this country as pressure groups, according to Road Haulage Association national vice-chairman Ken Rodgers.
Speaking at Glasgow University this week, he said: "Road transport has long been the target for unwarranted, unjustified, and damaging attacks by those who claim for themselves the name 'environmentalists.' We all live in the same environment, but road transport makes a major contribution to the quality of life we enjoy."
He continued: "What many people seem to miss is that the vast majority of road hauliers are themselves conservationists. We, too, wish to preserve the beauty and heritage of our country."
He added that, by cooperation between all interested parties, the haulier's job could be done with the least possible inconvenience to the public.
