EACH Scottish Bus Group depot is to become a business centre in its own right in the revised company structures being introduced to help SBG maintain its competitive edge in the new deregulated operating environment (CM. November 17).
It is likely that depot managers will be appointed to be accountable for all aspects of operation and will have a primary task of managing an efficient team seeking out local market opportunities which could lead to further growth.
The Group has already anticipated the new operating environment by telling regional councils that it is taking steps to eliminate cross-subsidy and as a result its subsidy requirement for the existing rural service networks is likely to increase significantly next year.
