IN Volvo is to spend £16.5 million on a new parts centre for its recently-acquired Leyland Bus subsidiary.
The depot, at Magna Park, Lutterworth, Leicestershire, will open in January 1990 and will employ 80. It will distribute Leyland Bus parts worldwide.
Volvo says further expansion of the centre will lead to it taking over parts distribution for Volvo trucks in the UK and abroad. Volvo Parts Corporation, based in Sweden, will handle all warehousing and distribution. Leyland Bus will be responsible for sales and marketing.
Volvo's international truck sales have risen 27% in the first nine months of 1988. Bus sales have gone up by 75% over the same period, following Volvo's acquisition of Leyland Bus early this year.
