• Supermarket giant Asda has awarded contracts to run three of its seven new food distribution centres.
Glass Glover will run the centre at Wigan, Amalgamated Distribution the one at Lutterworth and Christian Salvesen the depot in Dartford.
Together with depots at Falkirk and Wakefield, which Asda will run itself and another for slow-moving groceries at Lutterworth, handled by Tibbet and Britten, the network of centres covers the whole country. A contract for Bristol will be awarded shortly.
Previously almost all Asda's foods were delivered directly from suppliers.
