• From Holts comes the black box rust control, as used in the USA, which works primarily through cathodic protection, shielding painted or coated parts of the bodyshell and supressing rust with a tiny electric current.
This current, says the company, controls rust by preventing the dissolved oxygen and salts in the moisture film on the vehicle body combining with the metal of the body — the normal corrosion. process.
Secondary protection, says the company, comes from capacitive discharge oxidation interference. This prevents rust through the paint coating and around stone chips.
The black box, fitted in the engine compartment, will not cure existing rust, and scratches should be touched up.
