Norbert Dentressangle has bought Manchester-based Professional Tanker Services (PTS). The 30-truck operation is the French giant's second UK takeover: it acquired Aylesburybased Aston Clinton Haulage in January 1992.
This gives Dentressangle a stronger presence in the chemicals distribution sector with a site in Manchester—one of eight locations it plans to have depots in by 1999 (CM 17-23 November), PTS has a turnover of nearly .eilm from around 60 customers. Half its revenue is generated from UK domestic haulage, which is a key market for Dentressangle. Former PTS operations director Philip Baron, who remains a shareholder, says that Dentressangle has "major expansion plans" for the operation, which employs 40, Baron believes PTS, which will retain its name, could move into food-grade bulk liquids. The deregulated milk industry could be a growth area.
