by CM reporter MOSELEY, the Loughborough coach-dealing company, is considering entering the British double-decker market. Mr Chris , Lane, a director of the company, told CM that it was proposing to offer bodies and chassis Made on the Continent to British operators.
He revealed that the company had tendered for 100 bodies for the Merseyside PTE early this year and was in touch With several other operators. The Merseyside tender is to be decided within the next 'week.
Though Mr Lane refused to specify which manufacturers would be involved, he pointed out that the Portuguese Caetano concern—with which Moseley has long been associated—is an experienced doubledeck bodybuilder.
Caetano coach bodies have been offered in the UK for some time and at the Moseley show last week a Berliet PR100 city bus trimmed by Caetano was on show. Contrary to reports elsewhere, however, there are absolutely no plans to import that vehidle to the UK. the body's internal layout and trim were being sought though.
The other Moseley international venture—the Goldliner project—was also on show last week. " The second body, built by Duple to Moseley specification, is mounted on a Volvo chassis. Moseley is in the process of setting up a service network in Sweden and has exclusive rights to sell the body in Scandinavia. The vehicle is to be type-tested in Sweden soon and will eventually be marketed there at about £30,000.
