SPIERS and Hartwell Ltd, Evesham hauliers, are looking to the Middle East for expansion, to offset the effects of the recession at home. This was stated by the managing director, Mr Deryck Hartwell, at a dinner in Evesham last week to celebrate the company's 21st anniversary. Several outfits have already made successful trips to Baghdad for UK exporters and more loads were due to leave this week.
The local NFU secretary, proposing the company's health said it had been important to local market gardeners to have the efficient transport provided by companies like Spiers and Hartwell. The company built its services, especially to the North, largely on market produce. It now operates 22 vehicles on a variety of traffics.
