ack in 1976 Dee Evans found this Ford Jeep in pieces and being used to house chickens.
The 1942 workhorse first saw service with the parachute regiment, but its actual wartime service is not known to Mrs Evans, who lives at Hurspierpoint in West Sussex.
She does know that after the war it was bought by a local cricket club and used to tow a roller over their pitch. It was subsequently sold to a Ling-field farmer who, on deciding its useful days as a vehicle were over, used it to house chickens.
Less glamourous than its wartime role no doubt, but definitely in line with the biblical line about beating swords into ploughshares (that's enough schoolboy
theology Ed),
