FORMER deputy chairman and managing director of the Scottish Transport Group, William Mortis (`Moris') Little, has died in hospital.
In February, 1941, when he was appointed general manager' and engineer of St Helens' Corporation Transport Department he was, at the age of 31, the youngest manager of a public transport undertaking in Britain.
He was appointed deputy manager of Edinburgh's transport department in 1946, and two years later took over as manager. He joined the Scottish Bus Group as chairman and later became managing director of the Scottish Transport Group.
Mr Little was made a CBE in 1972 and became president of the Chartered Institute of Transport two years later, the year of his retirement.
• We record with regret the death of Brian Chandler. Mr Chandler was CM's cartoonist for more than 20 years. He also contributed to other road transport publications.
