TRAFFIC LEVELS on UK roads rose 1% between the second quarter of 2004 and the second quarter of 2005; but goods vehicle traffic was 3% higher.
In the report Road Traffic in Great Britain. Q22005 the Department for Transport reveals light vans traffic showed the greatest increase, with 6% growth during the period. This maintains the trend over the past two years. Truck traffic rose 4% on motorways. 1% on rural A-roads and 4% on urban A-roads In the second quarter trucks travelled 125.6 million vehicle kilometres (myk), compared with 121.9mvk a year earlier. Light vans did 153.4myk. compared with 144.8mvk in 2004.
Car traffic remained unchanged at 118myk, but accounts for fourfifths of total traffic.
