A haulier who lost his sight in one eye after a loading strap buckle broke and sprang back on him has lost his case for damages against the firm which loaded the trailer
Following his accident, which happened in February 1994, Tom Moore from Belfastbased MG Moore Transport is warning other operators not to use straps as handles when moving round a trailer. Moore had picked up a curtainsided trailer from concrete repairer Sika's site in Welwyn Carden City to take back to Belfast.
When he came to remove one pallet he used a strap as a handle to pull himself up. The strapping snapped and the buckle hit him in the eye.
A Belfast court ruled in favour of Sika on 10 February this year.
