ESSEX-BASED tanker operator Suckling Transport managed growth of almost 30% last year thanks to its Tankshare programme, which is designed to eliminate empty running.
The Thurrock-based company also increased its margin by 0.5% for the year ending 31 March 2006, with a boost in pre-tax profits from £238,000 to almost 094,000.
This represents a 1.9% margin when profits are compared against its £20.9m turnover for the period.
Managing director Peter Lamer reports that this was its sixth continuous year of growth.
Suckling, which has been trading for 70 years, employed an extra 50 drivers and engineers during the period, expanding its workforce to 272, including administration and management positions.
Lamer says previous growth was due to major contracts with Shell and ConocoPhillips. However, last year's growth was mainly down to the Tankshare operations, which shares resources in tanker distribution. Lamer adds that the company also has a "couple of tenders" coming up in 2007, which it hopes will expand operations further. Suckling Transport is a whollyowned subsidiary of Harris 1 foldings (Grays). It runs more than 100 tankers: many in clients' liveries.
