NATIONAL Coal Board h planning to fit 40 dump truck with closed circuit TV to be USel as a rear-view mirror.
Conventional offside-mounte( mirrors, located some 3.4n (lift) from the driver do not givi sufficient visibility and a blim spot about 6m (20ft) from till vehicle is said to cause frequen accidents.
To cope with the demandin( operating conditions, the cam era will be fitted with a specie housing incorporating a heater high-pressure lens apertur. washer and wiper and specie mountings are being develop& by installers CCTV Division c Modern Alarms Ltd, Ham psteac North London.
On satisfactory completion c a four-week trial, NCB plans ti have 40 vehicles equipped wit the system. Other application under discussion have include large fork trucks and cranes.
