ASUFFICIENT number of members of the Traders Road Transport Association and Road Haulage Association have volunteered to co-operate with British Road Services and Birmingham City Police to launch a vehicle observer corps to combat thefts from lorries, it was announced at a meeting of the TRTA in Birmingham on Monday.
The city will be divided into six areas, in each of which a group of vehicle operators will be authorized to carry out searches for a stolen vehicle following advice of the theft to a group control centre by the pate.
A decision wis also made at the meeting that a letter be sent to the Town Clerk of Birmingham requesting an extension of the time limit for unloading in restricted areas from 20 to 30 minutes as had been authorized in Liverpool.
