CHRISTMAS was a blessing in more ways than one for the enterprising Norfolk remover, Abel's of Watton. On a normal Sunday night the company has up to 10 vehicles on the ferry from Harwich but because of the imminence of Christmas there were only three on the European Gateway when she sank after a collision last December.
These turned out to be more durable than the ship, which was beyond economic repair. The 1980 Bedford 500 engine of a furniture van started at the first attempt after three months on the sea bed. Lucky Tony Abel, managing director, said the two other chassis were also in remarkably good order.
