HNT Contract Distribution has won a contract to clean British Telecom's London telephone boxes — to avoid inconveniencing users the cleaning begins when most city dwellers are still a-bed.
Recently, a TNT driver cleaning a box was routinely removing cards left by ladies of the night, offering a range of unusual services and accompanied by telephone numbers. The driver was threatened by the prostitute's pimp who clearly feared a loss of trade. TNT complained to British Telecom, who contacted the pimp. Any more threats, BT told him, and all his ladies' telephone lines would be removed. However, if he wanted to follow the cleaner around, replacing discarded cards, that was his business. Message understood, apparently.
