From a motoring interest our transport consisted of an ex-Army Canadian Ford which we purchased for the sum of E90.
Petrol, being something of a problem at that time, we carried in gerry cans plus a 40gal drum. The fire hazard gave us some concern but we had no other choice.
Sleeping bags, clothing, primus cooker and much other useful gear was mainly Army surplus.
We called the venture "Safari on a shoe string"' and covered some 8,500 with little bother.

W. G. COOK, Rickmans worth, Herts. France and Holland have introduced national step legislation to ensure that all vehicles covered by the EEC tachograph legislation will have had instruments installed and calibrated in time for the due date, that is to say January 1, 1978.
Make no mistake about it, the French regulations about the installation and calibration of tachographs are very strict.
Only in 1978 when all member states have had tachographs fitted to appropriate vehicles will it be sensible to enforce the EEC social regulations on driving time and distance uniformly.
