TNT, TDG and Driver Hire were named top transport companies for safety at last week's Fleet Safety Forum awards. The awards, run by road safety campaign group Brake, recognise companies promoting risk management.
• TNT won the Novice Driver 'framing category for training 120 new drivers through a variety of training programmes.
• TDG scooped the Driver Development award for its five-star driver development programme.
• Driver agency Driver Hire won a special award for proving its commitment to road safety by communicating with its customers and drivers on road safety topics.
• Hazchem specialist Suckling Transport won the Crash Analysis Providers award for its policy of researching why crashes happen and tackling their causes.
Other winners included Northgate, Ryder and Sainsburys. Brake chief executive Mary Williams says: "This year we made a conscious effort to include smaller companies in the winners. Often these companies are battling against management practices that don't promote risk management."
