suggest to the Government that some right of user should be given to transport operators who are providing services in new town centres, it was decided this week at a national executive meeting.
A second point to be put to the Government concerns the Beeching plan which will result in land being relinquished by the railways. If suitable, this land could be earmarked for use by road transport, suggested the Association.
At the meeting it was announced that Mr. H. F. Capon has been appointed as the Association's representative to the National Committee on Road Transport Education.
E.E.C. Wages, Conditions T HE E.E.C. Commission is organizing a "round-table on social policy" as it affects the transport field, to take place at the end of this year.
Consultative in character, the conference will be attended by representatives from E.E.C. governments, from professional transport organizations and from employees' organizations.
Among the subjects to be discussed are the harmonization of wages and working conditions in transport, the length of each working period, overtime rates, vocational training, health and safety measures and national social security systems.
